ANchorage August 4, 1983

Dear Family,
It sure is nice now not having my eye hurting. I went in to the doctor and in about 5 min he had it out. I guess you could say it was like casting the beam out of my eye!
Now that I got that taken care of I thought it would be smooth from here out, ut I was wrong. Last Thursday we had district meeting in the mountains. It was a super day and we had a great meeting. But when w ere coming down the mountain Elder Cox and I thought we would act like we were skiing down. After my first or second jump I came down on my foot sideways. Remember how big my ankle was swollen last time? Well it was worse this time.  The next day I couldn't even walk on it so I thought I better get it checked out. Luckily there wasn't anything wrong, it's just that I sprained i bad and it was so swollen because he said it looks worse the second time it's sprained. So after this is healed I hope nothing else will happen.
The next night we had our baptisms with Rodger and it was as I suspected it would be, very good. It was the best baptism I think I have ever been to. Everything went just right, the talks were good and everything was on time. Pres and Sis Papa were there so I was trying my best not to let them know I had sprained my ankle. Not that I didn't want them to know, I just didn't want them to feel responsible or concerned about me. It was great though,I was all decked out in my whites and Rodger was so excited and nervous. I didn't want him to know I was nervous also, he might have run out the door. He didn't and it was a very spiritual baptism, one I don't think I will ever forget.
Last p-day, Elder Cox and I and the other elders living with us went out fishing with a member in Wasilla  We were so excited about the trip that I don't think any of us got any sleep that night! Peopl have been telling us how the salmon fishing is, how the rivers are full of fish and how we couldn't miss.  Besides Alaska is famous for their fishing. So we were all up early and heading for the rivers. It was a beautiful day and it reminded me a lot of Island Park and the times we have fished there, the difference being we ere after huge salmon. The silver salmon was what we were wanting to catch.  They aren't as big as the others but they are the best fighters.  We arrived a the first river early andit was to be the best fishing there, and sure enough there wer fish but they weren't as thick as we were expecting Elder Cox was the first to catch one. He caught a nice silver that was about 5-6 lbs. and boy did it fight! I was the next, I also caught a silver about the same size and boy did it fight! I also caught a dog salmon that was about 15 lbs. and I think he fought as good as the silver. I must have spent 4 min. trying to wear him out and instead he started to wear me out. But I finally got him on the bank.
Elder ox still beat me though.  He ended up catching one a little bigger. But it was fun even though that was about all that were caught. They said the salmon are in between runs and we were lucky to get those. Maybe I will get one more chance at them before I go!
Well, I guess I better go and hope everything is going god. I love you all, Daren
4 more times.
