Kotzebue January 31, 1983

Dear Family,
Doesn't this picture look a lot like the one I did down stairs? We both worked from the same photo.
It was really great to get  your last letter or I guess I should say letters. I enjoyed hearing how everyone is doing. I really enjoyed hearing from you Dad. So it sounds as if you were prepared to shoot 'the hole' out of those deer. It's kind of hard sometimes here with everyone going out trapping and hunting. I want to go with them.
I did get a chance to go a little ways out of town here. Our branch pres took us out to see where he is going to build his house. It is really beautiful there on one side he has a lake and trees all around! While I was there I picked me up a souvenir. It is a moose antler and was just shed last fall. It didn't come from a big bull but I figure the span of his antlers is 42 in.
Last night we sure had the run around with this minister. We were out tracting and knocked on his door, we introduced ourselves and what we were doing. His eyes lit up and I knew we were in for it, he had literature scattered all over his house and he made sure he had his Bible nearby. Well this story doesn't end with a happy ending of us converting him, neither did it end with the sad ending, leaving him mad and furious. We just tried our best to tell him what we knew to be true an left him with a good impression. Sometimes that is really hard because you want to just pound it in their heads and have them accept it but we know that that isn't the way the Lord works.
So Lorin doesn't have time to write me, huh? And he has time to talk to Janet on the phone? Well when I get back I'm just going to have to take him down and thrash on him! or whoop him in basketball, which ever the easiest may be!
Thanks again for all you have done. Take care and Shalene, be easy on the boys! Tom, keep on staying cool! John, keep up the great work! Mark, take it easy! and Mom and Dad, I love you!
Daren
