Nome December 20, 1982

Dear Family,
Well here it is the shortest day of the year. The sun came up this morning at about 10:15 and will go down about 1:45, crazy huh?!!
So Lorin is going to wrestle? That's great! He had better watch out and not hurt his knee again or his ankle. That means no b-ball! That's going to be tough for him to stay away from. I remember how hard it was for him when I was there.
Today is also our last B-ball game with the community league this year. They are gong to put out another schedule the first of the year. It has really worked out good so far. We have received a couple people that we are teaching from our b-ball.
I don't know if I told you in my last letter that Pres was up here, but when he was I talked with him and he thought it was great how we were getting into the community, because Nome isn't like any other place in Alaska. But we are still doing our regular proselyting work but tracting isn't as exciting as playing basketball.
I'm sorry to hear that Grandpa was sick and I'm glad to hear he is doing better. Grandma's fine, I guess? And Grandma and Grandpa Wilding are enjoying themselves in that hot state of Arizona.
We have been teaching a couple of Eskimos up here and one of them is a skin sewer. Her name is Freeda Larsen and a couple days ago she got a huge seal skin and she promised us that we could get us a pair of seal skin mittens from it. So finally I got my mittens. I have been using those little knit gloves for awhile until I lost them then I have been using a members gloves. But now I will be the envy of Nome with these mittens.
Well I guess I better go, take care. I love you all! Elder Daren Wilding
p.s. Merry Christmas
