Anchorage June 23, 1983

Dear Family,
Last Sunday was sure a fun one for us. We had five investigators at church! What was so fun was trying to answer all of their questions and it seemed they all ask about the same time. Kim Russell and her little brother we brought with us.  Kim is only 10 an her brother is 7. Neither of them are members but Kim is going to be baptized here in a couple weeks.  We are really looking forward to that! Anyhow there were a couple primary kids who asked if they were my kids and where is my wife!
Last Monday Elder Cox and I played some tennis. It was the first time I have ever picked up and used one of those rackets. At first it was awkward but it is a lot like racquet ball so it wasn't to bad. , We played a couple of our investigators, Alio and Smitty.  We must have played for an hour and a half, that's how close the games were.  Elder Cox used to play tennis for his high school so he was the strong man on our team.  We just barely won before they had to go.
It has really been beautiful up here.  They say it usually rains but it hasn't rained since I have been in town. (knock on wood)
Elder Tanner, my first comp is living right next door to us now. It is really good to see him again. He is now the newest assistant to Pres. Papa and they are working their behinds off.
We have sue been seeing a lot of moose in our area.  I told myself, "self, I want to get a picture of every moose I see." But I found out that's easier said than done. We saw two moose on the side of the road an by the time we got the car stopped and our cameras they were gone into the bushes.  So I wasn't going to give up that easy.  We took off after them.  We pushed our way through the thick trees and bushes and looked all over but couldn't see "hide nor hair" of them. We finally heard them and saw a glimpse but they were long gone after that.  We made our way back to the car, got all the mosquitoes and twigs off of us and were on our way. It sure was surprising how they can make themselves so scarce.  They must be 'buggers' to hunt!
We have really been blessed with the success that we are having. We have now a good size group of people that we are teaching and some that are going to be baptized soon.  I think that baptisms are what Elder Cox and I need. Plus it is what the ward needs also since they haven't seen success in about a year.  So things are going good for me. I hope the same for you.
Take care.  Love, Daren
