Kotzebue February 8, 1983

Dear Family,
Well I just had another one of those weeks where I just wasn't sure what was going to happen next. Last Tuesday we received a telephone call from Pres. Papa and he informed us that Elder Hartshorn was getting moved to the North Pole, just outside of Fairbanks and that my new comp was Elder Salabiye. He is a huge Indian from Arizona and used to play the whole offensive line on his high school team.
So Elder Harshorn took off on Wednesday morning and Elder Salabiye was supposed to be coming in a few hours later, but when he got to Anchorage he had to buy a parka and boots for this 'frozen artic.' So he didn't arrive until the next day. You are probably wondering what I did in that I didn't have a comp. Well I split with just about all the priesthood holders in the branch and stayed over at the Riggs home. (He used to live in Pocatello)
Anyhow, I got Elder Salabiye here and no one gives me any guff now or I just sic him on them.
He is a great elder and I'm sure we will make a great team.
I really enjoyed that last letter, it was full of surprises. Congrats to Lorin on that upset over Highland. It sounded as though Highland thought they were going to take it.
Thanks for the picture John, boy have you grown since I saw you last. And I sure hope that, Mom and Dad, you have a great vacation.
Well not much more to say except that it is still cold (only around 10') and thanks for the dryer and tablet, I needed both of them.
I love you, Elder Daren Wilding
