Anchorage May 30, 1983

Dear Family,
I sure hope you got those pictures I sent home. They aren't much but they kind of give you an idea of what it is like up here in  'this great white north'.
Things have really picked up since I have been here, last week we taught seven discussions and got a few more call backs. The sisters, I guess, only taught a couple times a week and tracted their guts out with not much success.  Again, I know the Lord blesses us when we do what he wants.
Today was a really good day.  We were invited to one of our members place for a barbecue. What was so good about it was they were members that live 'up on the hill' and they are filthy rich. They are the McCanns and they are super people and treat us really well.
I don't know if I told you about the Payones who are also in the ward.  They live right across from the McCanns and we went over to their place to play around in their gym which is part of their house! They have a trampoline that is floor level and we pulled the basketball hoop by the tramp an were slamming the b-ball.  I just wish I could do it without the trampoline!
Pres. Papa has asked all the missionaries when they 'split' to teach, to call it 'teaming' instead, so last week we 'teamed' with our district leader and I had a chance to teach one of their contacts who is going to be baptized here soon. It was a great discussion and I am looking forward to that baptism.
We also have been tracting a lot and on one occasion while out tracting we met this guy who was full of anti and he wanted to show us we were wrong. What surprised him though, I think, is that we didn't argue.  We answered his questions and bore testimony to him and I hope he felt the spirit of it.  We had a good talk with him for over an hour and a half.  It was sure interesting to hear what he brought up. It didn't shake our testimonies any but maybe strengthened them.
I have learned so much since being out, about the Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants but I guess the most important thing I have learned is that the whole gospel is true. It's like what Ether said, "Ye gain no witness until after the trial of your faith."
Boy am I sure glad this month is over. It seemed I went over on everything, on our miles that we are allowed with th car, and on the money that I usually send. But not much!
Well, everyone take care and let me know how you are doing. Love Daren
