Anchorage June 6, 1983

Dear Family,
So how was your vacation? How is Grandpa doing? I sure hope he is feeling better, and tell him he is always in my players.
Elder Cox and I had a hard time getting going this week. First he was laid up with the flu, then got better and then I got the flu. We didn't miss that much though, we were able to get out at least once a day. The time was really spent well though. We were able to add a couple families to our teaching pool and got several discussions.  One discussion we had was with Alio and Karmen Fernandez.  Alio would be baptized right now but Karmen is kind of dragging her feet and slowing everything down. But we had a great discussion and what made it so special was that Alio was bearing his testimony of the Book of Mormon.
Last sunday we had the Pres. of the Seventies come in our priesthood meeting. He asked for a run down on the missionary work in our ward.  And compared to how the 10th ward has been going it is really moving. Although our teaching pool isn't the biggest in the mission it's right up there now and not the lowest in Anchorage like it used to be. So we were pretty proud of our report but this guy  I guess wasn't and he threw it right back in our face and told us we should be doing more. And if that wasn't enough, he went over our coordinators head and took it upon himself to set us up on splits.  So this guy really doesn't know how to work with people very well and isn't one of the most favored people in the ward. Our coordinator is the best though and I really look up to the man because  if it had happened to me I think I would have told this guy to 'take a hike'.  But instead he said, "let's just take the ball and run with it." It's like what we tell our investigators, the organization is perfect but sometimes the people aren't.
It sure has been beautiful this past couple days, with the temps about 70' and it really feels like summer.
Last Monday that moose that is living around here decided to show up again. I was on my way to put in a batch of laundry and came around the corner of the building and just about ran right into him. I scared the heck right out of me and scared him just as bad. So when I went to the car to get my camera he was already into the bushes and out of sight.
Well take care and  tel me how everyone is doing. Love, Daren
