Kotzebue February 22, 1983

Dear  Family,
Congrats Lorin! I heard you did pretty good at state. I would like to have been there, but you know how it is, the roads were slick and that darn car wouldn't start. (haha)
Well this past week, like all the other weeks, was cold. It averages out to be about 20' below zero and I haven't seen it above 0' in almost a month! I never thought I would say this but sometimes I wish it would be a little warmer.
We also had this week, quite a few discussions lined up and it looked to be pretty busy, but that isn't how it always turns out to be. We had three discussions right in a row cancel and sometimes it is hard to fill in that time because we can't always tract in this small town.
The people are great here and I am always looking for ways in which we can get the native population interested. Rachel Craig, in the branch, is a really big help. She has a strong testimony about the gospel and has a powerful influence on the Eskimos because she is Eskimo also.
Hopefully with Elder Salibiye here the people will accept us better and show more of an interest.
We can relate to the kids really good because we have this gym but still we are trying to get in with the older generations. It's hard but with the Lord's help "nothing is impossible."
It was really good to hear from you (it always is) and all of you better take care,
Love, Daren
