Kotzebue April 18, 1983

Dear Family,
Spring has finally arrived here, last week we had our first thaw and boy was it nice!
We really had a good discussion this week, with a lady that we are teaching. She knows that what we are telling her is true but for some reason she won't commit to anything but soon I feel, she will have to make a discussion, she can't stay "luke warm."
Doug Hawley, from Nome, was in town the other day and he spent the night with us because he couldn't fly into Nome. It was sure great to see him and hear how things are going there.
I don't know if I told you or not but Freeda Larsen, in Home, who Elder Morrison and I were teaching just got baptized! She flew down to Anchorage so that she could be with her family and have Elder Morrison baptize her. She is our Eskimo lady and was the one that helped us sew our seal skin mittens.
She really complimented Elder Morrison and I, she said she wasn't really interested in the gospel until we came along! When Pres. Papa came up he told me all of this and I just had to call her and congrats her. There were many times, after coming out of Freeda's that we said "it would sure be great if Freeda were to get baptized and what an influence she would have on others." Because she is one of the Elders in town and every one knows her.
Well, I hope that all is fine there and take care!
Love, Daren
p.s. Thanks for all of your letters that really made my day!!

pps Tell Kurt & Clint congrats but I dont' know where Kent is going but when he gets his call congratulate him and tell me where he is going.
